I can comprehend that if you have your Wii U hooked up to a receiver via HDMI which doesn't understand PCM Multichannel and the surround setting of the Wii U sends If this were a receiver, i would agree with you that option is necessary. are you paid to haze the new guy or something? Wii Surround Sound it's been the requirement that 5.1 signals are encoded into video for years now. You're still not getting a proper discrete encoded 5.1 soundtrack on Netflix. Our games database should be able to help out in a pinch, if needed.

The only surround sound on the system cones from raw PCM 5.1 which optical doesn't have the bandwidth to carry, only HDMI.
