Have you checked the headphone jack? I've reinstalled the times app twice problem still not fixed. Hence the appearance of either symbol on the left of your music control when you swipe from left to right after double tapping your Home button. I had known about fixing the sound issue on my iPad3 by rebooting it, but that wasn't always convenient as sometimes I'd have a lot of browser tabs open that I In SOUNDS I went to Ringer and Alerts and click ON for Change with Buttons. I was at my wits end, thinking my little Grandson had surely ruined my IPad for good!
