Again excellent article and thanks for the warning about windows 10. If you google this message, you will see that a lot of people get this problem after installing video editing tools or codecs. So do what I did and you should be ok but updating windows if you do make sure the media center is working each time. check my blog I began deleting my recordings from the files library instead of clicking delete while in the media center.

Now, the media center works again. The first time I ran m/c it would search for my local tv guide but would not find it. Channel 25.1 is now broadcasting on 25.1, not 27.1, channel 69.1 is now broadcasting on 39.1, not 6.1. These steps do not apply to Windows Vista.

Started the object store recovery in task scheduler for media center 4. If your system is still resolving to the older guide system (Zap2It) this process will continue to fail regardless of what zip codes you enter.
I can't get ANYTHING to get media center to switch to Rovi.
